If time or travel is a barrier to visiting Otter Cove, check out Otter Cove on the Go. Designed for preschools, child care programs and elementary schools, Otter Cove on the Go brings the museum to you!
Cost
Otter Cove on the Go is currently available at no cost thanks to a grant from the Minnesota Department of Education using federal funding, CFDA 84.027A, Special Education - Grants to States. This is subject to change depending on funding availability.
Group Size
Maximum of 28 children per session. An adult teacher/leader must remain present at all times.
Topics
Available workshop topics are listed in the yellow menu. Expand each section to see the workshop description. Each workshop is approximately 45 minutes. Please allow additional time for set up and tear down.
Availability and Booking
Otter Cove on the Go can be scheduled on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays.
Workshops need to be scheduled at least one month in advance. For the best choice of day and time, please schedule early. Contact us at least one week in advance to cancel your workshop.

It’s an alphabet race up the coconut tree! After reading Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, children will explore uppercase and lowercase letters and create their own coconut trees.

Walter is a little spider determined to make a sturdy web using special shapes. After reading Walter’s Wonderful Web, children will explore shapes and use a variety of materials to create their own unique web shapes.

One day, Color Monster wakes up feeling very confused. His emotions are all over the place; he feels angry, happy, calm, sad, and scared all at once! To help him, a little girl shows him what each feeling means through color.
Children will discuss emotions and make their own color monster.

When the local Pet Club won’t admit a boy’s tiny pet elephant, he finds a solution - one that involves all kinds of unusual animals. Children will reflect on what it means to be a true friend and will make their own welcoming sign.

Music is for everyone - there are so many ways to join in the fun! Children will learn about many different types of music and then use everyday materials to make their own instruments.

A pig named Boomer participates in the Animal Olympics. He isn’t the fastest or the strongest, but he does work hard. One of the events Boomer has trouble with is the pole vault - he just can’t seem to make it over the bar. Children will use a variety of materials to create a catapult that can launch an object.

Pretty ladybugs, fluttering butterflies, creepy daddy longlegs, and roly-poly bugs are some of the familiar creatures featured in this whimsically illustrated insect album. Children will learn about different kinds of bugs and make their own bug painting!

Iggy Peck began building at the early age of 2, when he built a tower from dirty diapers! As he grows, he continues to build things like a cathedral out of apples and a castle out of chalk. Children will use a variety of materials to create their own tall buildings.

Home looks and feels different for everyone! After reading Home, children will create their own 3D homes and neighborhoods.
